UCLA FlexWork guide for managers now available

Campus Human Resources

To: Faculty and Staff

Dear Colleagues:

As we progress beyond the emergency phase of COVID-19 to long-term planning at UCLA, a new FlexWork Guide for Managers (PDF) has been created. This guide, which is now available online, is the result of the ongoing efforts of the Reinventing the UCLA Workplace of the Future Work Group, which was established in December 2020 to review and make recommendations to identify evolving workplace trends and define the flexible workplace of the future.

Please note that although this guide is primarily for use by managers, we are sharing it widely with faculty and staff to keep everyone informed. Guidance for hospital and clinical operations will be issued separately by UCLA Health Human Resources.

We encourage you to review this guide and, where appropriate, work to implement FlexWork in a manner that is beneficial to achieving UCLA’s goals while also supporting our employees.

As co-chairs of this working group, we would like to acknowledge the contributions of the following individuals for their service to this group and for offering their ideas and perspectives, as we diligently worked to advance workplace culture and opportunities in the aftermath of one of the most challenging times in our history.

  • Lucy Avetisyan, associate vice chancellor and CIO, IT services
  • Kevin Baldwin, informatics portfolio manager, UCLA Health and former president, UCLA Staff Assembly
  • Reem Hanna-Harwell, assistant dean of humanities
  • Mary Okino, deputy director, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research
  • Nancy Velasquez, chief administrative officer, Institute for Research on Labor and Employment
  • Steve Yu, chief financial officer and assistant dean, School of Law

We are also indebted to Kathleen Shiroma, Susan Shahoda and Maylene Raful from Campus Human Resources for providing their excellent support to the Work Group. Together, we consulted representatives from a wide variety of functional areas, including Learning & Organizational Development; the Staff and Faculty Counseling Center; Events and Transportation; Disability Management; Insurance and Risk Management; and Ergonomics, to name a few, to collectively deliver a roadmap to support FlexWork on the UCLA campus.

Sincerely,

Lubbe Levin
